* Casual Car Documentation: The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
The Capital Programme Division reports to the Deputy Chief Executive and is responsible for developing and delivering Major and Minor Capital Programmes across the City. The current value of the programme is £200m pa. The portfolio of work is varied and some of our current and previous projects that we have been involved in include for example the construction of new schools, large scale solar PV installations, building demolition, repair, maintenance & refurbishment of heritage buildings, galleries, leisure centres, and park buildings.
The Mechanical Engineer – Low Carbon role is based within the Major Works Team responsible for typically refurbishment projects over £500k in value with an annual portfolio of circa £20m per annum. This role will be responsible for providing design and engineering expertise within the low carbon implementation team primarily delivering the low carbon retrofit programme across the corporate estate but may also be involved in construction, repair and refurbishment projects and programmes. Typically these projects will be batched and managed in programmes of typically 10 – 20 projects totalling around £20m per annum.
The team assists clients to review project requirements and develop programmes of work which achieve the corporate goals of decarbonising the estate and then proceed to procure and implement agreed projects / programmes. The team is also responsible for up to date project monitoring and reporting of previous decarbonization projects.
The role will also critically support MCC's low-carbon targets as it will be key to ensuring that low-carbon considerations are factored into all our construction projects from an engineering perspective.
We require a suitably experienced engineer to deliver and manage work across a diverse portfolio. The successful candidate will be qualified to HND/HNC/BSc/MSc level or an equivalent qualification and experience.
You must be passionate about project delivery, competent in analysing data, proficient in project/programme reporting, possess a good working knowledge of building services particularly with a focus on future technologies and innovative solutions. Professionally, you will be required to support the wider team to deliver, manage & administer construction contracts from commencement to completion, to quality, time and within budget.
