Stonehouse Technology Centre (SHTC) is the SLB drilling Centre of Excellence. It supports SLB through innovative engineering and quality-driven manufacturing, with portfolio emphasis on rotary steerable systems, Measurement While Drilling tools, Specialised Measurement tools and Rechargeable Batteries for Downhole use, and power source products. Over 400 employees work in SHTC's modern, fit-for-purpose building in scenic Gloucestershire. The facility was constructed to handle future demand for PowerDrive tools with an efficient workflow that ensures assembled tools are extensively and rigorously tested before delivery. On site, tools can be monitored using state of-the-art hardware and connectivity that link SHTC to all field locations. SHTC continues Research & Development investment for new technologies, extending operational limits so that clients can reach hotter, deeper reserves. Description & Scope: As part of the Technical Communications team, you will create and update operating and maintenance content with relevant subject matter experts. You will support the engineering project team, facilitating the creation of high-quality and accurate technical documents such as assembly and test procedures and user guides. This is for exciting new projects involving hardware and some software and will provide a great opportunity to work closely with the engineering team. - You will be required to produce user documentation for our products to agreed corporate standards and timescales. Examples can be maintenance guides, assembly and test procedures, operational guides, etc. - Your goal is to take technical information and present it in a clear and concise form that can be understood by a global audience. - Our goal is to provide our field users with the best quality information to enable them to do their jobs efficiently, safely and error free. - You must be a self-starter with strong writing and communication skills, capable of planning your work and keen to learn and take on new challenges. - You want to be part of a team creating good quality, accurate, and easy-to-use content for the benefit of a global audience. - Training and mentoring will be given in all aspects of technical writing and information Deliverables: - Create, update, and maintain technical assembly, maintenance, and operational content by working closely with project engineering teams. - Work closely with the engineers to observe the assembly of products and to document the procedures. - Write structured documentation in a content management system that maximizes comprehension and ease of use. - Produce clear, concise, and accurate content for a wide range of users including users whose first language is not English. - Edit documents supplied by subject matter experts according to corporate standards and style. - Get source information from internal project documentation sources such as CAD drawings, specs, and interviews with project team members as well as from change request tickets. - Manage review cycles and incorporate review comments. - Produce and edit graphics such as taking photos during engineering assembly, cropping photos, adding annotations/callouts, and repurposing engineering 3D CAD models to produce renders/exploded views. - You may also get involved in creating animated assembly sequences or short how-to videos. - You will learn the fundamentals of technical communications and how to create good quality user content. - You will also learn about the product lifecycle and how the associated documentation changes over the product lifecycle. - You will learn how best to present technical information to a global audience using different types of media. - You will also gain a good understanding of our products and what the field users need to help them perform their jobs effectively and safely. Required Skills & Education: - Studying for a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Communications, Languages or a related discipline - Good motivation, autonomy, teamwork, and ingenuity - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Any previous writing experience especially writing technical documents or any instructional writing would be advantageous. - Strong attention to detail, with an eye for improving existing work - Any experience with image editing for example, using software such as CAD, PhotoShop, and Illustrator to create and edit images - Good organizational and interpersonal skills to manage the flow of information from contributors and reviewers.
