This craft attendant jointer will report to the field staff supervisor and will work within network operations based in our Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.
You will attract a salary of £31,454 per annum depending on experience and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:
The postholder is required to assist the jointer in their role regarding fault repairs, network alterations, and new connection work which involves jointing work on the LV/HV distribution network. This will also include assisting in the restoration of LV supplies as part of fault working and system emergencies. This will be done by observing the work in progress to ensure correct procedures are being followed with regard to PPE and safe working practices.
You will be required to participate in a stand-by rota as part of a team to provide emergency response outside of normal working hours. You should also be prepared to study to obtain a City & Guilds 2339 (formerly 2322) qualification and be prepared to undertake training to become a jointer.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Observe all work being carried out on live LV apparatus with exposed conductors.
* Ensure safe use of equipment following health & safety procedures and network standards, specifically ensuring that colleagues on site are wearing the relevant PPE.
* Deter members of the public from distracting staff while working on live equipment and ensure 'Do Not Disturb' signs are prominently displayed.
* Set equipment up for the Jointer including preparation of work, laying out tools and equipment for a task, and providing the vehicle to allow jobs to be carried out.
* Assist the Jointer when he/she carries out work on live 240/415v apparatus, conductors, or equipment while observing appropriate safety procedures.
* Use appropriate IT equipment such as an electronic job issuing system.
* Dig and aid in excavating holes safely and liaise with external contractors.
* Support the Jointer in undertaking risk assessments of jobs in terms of feasibility, safety, knowledge of tools and equipment, and timeliness.
* Undertake a system emergency storm role in accordance with network standards and safety requirements.
Qualifications:
* Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent.
* Sound knowledge of electrical distribution.
* Understanding of the Electricity at Work Act, including electrical diagrams and maps (points of isolation/earthing).
* New Roads & Streetworks Act (NRSWA) – Units 1, 2, and 3 successfully achieved.
* Initial training at a training centre for a basic grasp of policy and health & safety; Craft Attendants will learn on the job.
* Trained in First Aid.
* Awareness of policies relating to network standards and Health & Safety.
* Full UK driving licence required.
