Scribe UK: Publicity and Marketing Manager
You'll have a minimum of 2-3 years' publishing experience and be keen to work on a broad range of genres
Independent publisher Scribe UK is seeking a Publicity and Marketing Manager to join our team based in Bloomsbury, with a list that includes prize-winning and bestselling authors. You’ll have a minimum of 2-3 years’ publishing experience and be keen to work on a broad range of genres, including literary fiction, serious nonfiction, and picture books. Publicity experience is essential, marketing experience would be desirable.
Founded in 2013, Scribe UK publishes high-quality literary fiction and serious nonfiction, as well as picture books under our imprint Scribble. We are part of the Independent Alliance and a member of the Publishers’ Association.
We are looking for a candidate who can hit the ground running, leading on around two campaigns a month, for books that could vary from popular health to politics, literary fiction to investigative journalism, picture books to memoir. You will have a track record of designing and implementing successful campaigns, as well as excellent media and events contacts. Strong pitching skills, creativity, and resourcefulness are all essential, as is exceptional author care.
Expertise in new media is particularly welcomed, as is experience communicating with influencers and directly to customers as you will be managing our social media communications and consumer newsletters. Experience designing marketing assets such as social media posts from templates would be desirable.
You do not need to have marketing experience, but you do need an awareness of how independent publishers can reach readers outside of the traditional publicity channels and be good at working to a tight budget.
You will be leading on Scribble titles in the UK, so enthusiasm about quality children’s book publishing is a must.
We are a small, close-knit team and hope to find someone who enjoys working collaboratively. It is important that you have good humour and an enthusiasm for independent, thought-provoking publishing.
This is a full-time position on a fixed-term, 12-month contract at £35,000 minimum per annum depending on experience, with a three-month probationary period, reporting to the Publicity and Marketing Director. Office hours are 10am–6pm with a one-hour paid lunch break and flexibility around start/finish times. This role is based in our office in Bloomsbury with a minimum of two in-office days per week.
A degree is not essential for this role.
To apply, please email Adam Howard at adam[at]scribepub.co.uk with your cover and CV. As part of your covering letter, please let us know about a recent literary fiction publicity campaign that you admired, and why. Deadlines for applications will be Monday 29th April at 6pm.
We offer equal opportunities regardless of gender, race, socio-economic background, age, disability, sexual orientation and national origin, and by doing so, aim to reflect the world around us. Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments during the interview process.
