DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY ROYAL INFIRMARY
CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOW POSTS IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE
(with the option to rotate into Critical Care)
Are you undecided about your career choices? Want to gain more clinical experience or improve your CV? Keen to develop an interest in education, research or management? Then a clinical development post might be for you. An opportunity to grow in confidence as a doctor whilst still gaining supported experience.
Applications are invited for Clinical Development Fellow posts in Emergency Medicine which are available from the 6th August 2025 for a period of 12 months. The successful applicants will be given the option to undertake a 3 month rotation into Critical Care to gain experience in this area. These posts are available at the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and are aimed at those doctors who have recently completed their foundation programme or equivalent, or core training.
The posts will afford successful applicants the opportunity to gain wide experience in Emergency Medicine and develop procedural skills, while enjoying protected and mentored development time. We are a friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic team, and are aiming to recruit like-minded individuals.
Successful candidates will be contracted for 40 hours per week, with an average of 32 hours clinical and 8 hours for mentored development time. Clinical work will be based in the Emergency Department and will include Out of Hours (OOH) work. The post holder will be paid at ST level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will be paid in addition to the basic salary.
We anticipate that many of our CDFs will want to teach and will encourage them to enrol in Edinburgh’s Clinical Educator Programme, successful completion of which will satisfy the GMC’s requirements to be recognised as a trainer. CDFs will find there are abundant opportunities to teach and to mentor students. We will in addition set aside up to £1500 per annum per CDF for study leave including courses such as the Clinical Educator Programme.
NHS D&G supports the work of the HALO Trust, mine clearance charity. Previous CDFs have undertaken research and audit projects (including visiting overseas). CDFs have also helped contribute towards the induction and training of new recruits to the charity.
Appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and Doctors and Dentists in Public Health Medicine and the Community Health Service (Scotland).
Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful and mostly undiscovered part of Scotland. This post would suit a doctor who enjoys walking, running, cycling, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. We are only a 90 minute drive away from the Lake District. We are also close enough to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle for those who enjoy the bright lights and city life.
