Job Summary
A total of 74 Consultant Anaesthetists including 5 Locum Consultants currently work for the Trust. The department also currently employs 2 Associate Specialists, 2 Specialist Grade Anaesthetists, 1 Specialty Doctor and about 30 trainees based in Anaesthesia ranging from CT1-ST7. 5 Senior Clinical Fellows are employed in the anaesthetic department. There are also trainees from acute medicine, respiratory medicine and emergency medicine who rotate through training in Intensive care and we train both FY1 and FY2 Doctors from our Local Foundation School.
There are 10 Anaesthesia Associates working in the department. Secretarial and administrative support to the Department is provided by 5 secretaries in anaesthesia and two based in critical care. The Department provides Anaesthesia services for all major surgical specialties and works across two sites. Most elective work takes place at Castle Hill Hospital whilst urgent care, obstetric and paediatric care is at Hull Royal Infirmary.
The Women's and Children's hospital manages about 6000 deliveries per year, with an elective caesarean section rate of 10% and an emergency caesarean section rate of 15%. For many years, Hull has been a leading centre for the practice and teaching of obstetric anaesthesia. There are active research and audit programs and opportunities for innovation in clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
* Provide an anaesthetic service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan.
* Consultant on call 1:20 to cover General theatres at Hull Royal Infirmary site.
* Supervise trainee anaesthetic staff within the Trust.

Person Specification
Professional Registration Essential
* Registered Practitioner who possesses FRCA (or equivalent). Eligible to be on the Specialist Register.
Qualifications and Training Essential
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of training, clinical experience and competence in all anaesthetic techniques required for this post.
* Worked in the UK for at least 12 months as an anaesthetist.
* 7 years Anaesthesia experience.
* ALS Provider.
Personal Attributes Essential
* Well organised and skilled in good time management.
* Effective interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team flexibly.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Clinical Experience Essential
* Understanding of current issues in the NHS, and of the responsibilities of a NHS consultant.
