Materials Buyer, company buyer, construction, housebuilder Your new company A long-established local housebuilder seeks an experienced buyer to join the stable commercial team. Operating across the SE London, Croydon & Kent region, their schemes vary considerably but typically fall in the 50-100 unit size and include both private and HA spec. With approx 8 live sites and several due on site before christmas they are particularly busy at present and expect to remain so for the foreseeable, Working from their SE London-based office they have a close-knit commercia team of 10 including surveyors, estimators, land managers and admin - Due to a recent internal move they now seek a Buyer to oversee all the businesses materials and subcontract procurement. Your new role As company buyer, you will work closely with the Construction director, Qs's, Site managers and wider team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the procurement function working within the established processes whilst adding your own knowledge and expertise to ensure minimal disruption on site and best value. You will be the sole buyer within the business reporting to the construction director and be directly responsible for material's buying and scheduling as well as assisting with subcontract orders. You will be in regular contact with the sites for progress updates as well as the surveyors and directors for larger strategic orders. This is a positive appointment and one that has come from a natural change in the business. You will be taking over a well-run desk with a comprehensive handover from the current. What you'll need to succeed You will be an experienced buyer who has worked for a medium to large housebuilder or contractor. You will be comfortable completing take-offs from drawings and working independently as the sole buyer. You will have worked in a similar capacity for several years previously, have a good network of local suppliers and be comfortable analysing drawings and suggesting alternative materials, understanding lead in times and managing accordingly and generally be motivated by adding value wherever possible.
