Applications are invited to apply for the above post in the Maternity Department at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The department is seeking a capable and motivated doctor who enjoys working in both a District General and tertiary referral service and wishes to effect change and improve care for patients within this service.
The successful candidate will join the maternity service which provides general obstetric services to the local population – 7500 women per year are cared for within the Trust. There are also tertiary referral services in fetal and maternal medicine, supported by a Level 3 neonatal unit.
This post is intended to be mainly based at the Horton Hospital in Banbury but there is also a Delivery suite/Caesarean Section session at the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford. In order to maintain appropriate competency, there will also be a necessity to rotate through ANC sessions at the John Radcliffe approximately 1 in 4. The provision of high-risk clinics at the Horton are required in alignment with the OUH strategy of care closer to home. On call will be Maternity only at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder’s duties will be split between the Horton General, Banbury and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
Clinical
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides services across four sites (John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, Horton Hospital Banbury, Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital and the Churchill Hospital, Oxford). Obstetric inpatient and outpatient services are based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. In addition, outpatient obstetric clinics are undertaken at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. The successful applicant may be required to work across both sites. The post holder will be expected to undertake high risk antenatal clinics at the Horton Hospital.
The post-holder will be expected to undertake sessions providing acute general intrapartum care and obstetric care supported by at least 2 other obstetricians in training as part of this post.
The post holder will undertake obstetric on-call duties of no more frequent than 1:9, currently 1:16 with internal cover (equivalent to 1:12.8 in the worked year). The out of hours on call attracts a supplement paid at Band A.

Qualifications & Training
* Primary medical qualification
* MBBS / MBChB
* MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
* Full GMC registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) at the time of starting in post
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC
* Higher medical degree
Experience
* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynecology equivalent to that required to a UK CCT
* ATSM Fetal and Maternal Medicine
* Experience of supervising junior staff
* Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training for O&G trainees
* Evidence of leadership of service improvement project leadership within an acute service
* Good spoken and written English
* Subspeciality Training in Fetomaternal Medicine
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education
* Leader in formal multidisciplinary team training
* First author peer reviewed publications
* Training in clinical management
* Evidence of authorship of clinical guidelines at a local or national level.
