Job Title: Civil Litigation Solicitor (Human Rights, CAPA & Inquests)
Location: Liverpool
Overall Job Purpose:
1. To manage Human Rights client cases to the highest standards.
2. To assist with achieving professional and commercial objectives related to inquests, inquiry work, and Claims Against Public Authorities (CAPA) caseload.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Management
3. Gather accurate client information, analyze legal aspects of claims, and advise on liability, costs, and funding.
4. Ensure insurance coverage is in place and all conditions are met.
5. Interview clients and witnesses, prepare settlement advice, draft statements, lists of documents, schedules of loss, and tribunal bundles.
6. Attend interlocutory hearings and short substantive hearings (when applicable).
7. Brief counsel, attend conferences, and assist with court proceedings.
8. Advise on litigation strategy, and work to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
9. Strive for pre-litigation settlement, or manage cases through litigation to trial and post-settlement issues.
10. Guide clients, especially those lacking capacity, in making informed decisions on legal matters.
11. Coordinate case resources, ensuring timely deployment of experts, witnesses, and others.
12. Monitor case progress, ensuring compliance with tribunal deadlines.
13. Adhere to all relevant civil procedures, tribunal rules, and timelines.
Client Relations
14. Deal with clients professionally and compassionately, maintaining a focus on their objectives and needs.
15. Ensure the highest ethical standards and responsiveness to client demands.
Other Responsibilities
16. Proactively contribute to the firm’s growth through knowledge sharing and collaborative work.
17. Participate in relevant professional organizations and attend seminars.
