We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Stockport. This role is vital in supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. Role Overview: As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support due to social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your primary responsibilities will include: - Supporting Individual Students: Provide tailored assistance to students with SEMH needs during lessons and activities. - Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Foster an inclusive atmosphere that encourages student participation and engagement. - Implementing Strategies: Work alongside teachers to implement individualized learning plans and behavioural strategies. - Monitoring Progress: Track student progress and report any concerns or achievements to teaching staff. - Building Relationships: Establish trusting relationships with students to promote their well-being and confidence. Key Responsibilities: - Assisting in Classroom Activities: Support teachers in delivering lessons by providing one-on-one or small group assistance. - Behaviour Management: Help manage classroom behaviour by implementing positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies. - Emotional Support: Offer emotional support to students experiencing difficulties, helping them navigate their feelings and challenges. - Collaboration with Staff: Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students. - Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training opportunities provided by Teaching Personnel to enhance your skills in supporting SEMH students. Qualifications: - Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs. - A relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential. - Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds. - Patience, empathy, and resilience when dealing with challenging situations.
