As a Senior Planner, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our development projects through the planning process, from initial concept to securing planning consents. This position requires strategic foresight, effective communication skills, and a collaborative approach. Working closely with internal teams, local authorities, and external stakeholders, you will help Allison Homes to deliver sustainable, high-quality developments that enhance community and environmental value.
Key Responsibilities
Planning Strategy Development:
* Lead and develop the planning strategy for new and existing sites in line with Allison Homes' strategic objectives.
* Provide insights on planning policy changes, potential risks, and opportunities.
Site Assessment and Feasibility Analysis:
* Conduct site assessments to evaluate planning potential and suitability for development, considering sustainability, biodiversity, and community impact.
* Advise on land acquisition decisions by assessing planning risks and opportunities.
Planning Applications and Approvals:
* Manage and coordinate planning applications, ensuring all documentation, consultations, and regulatory requirements are met.
* Liaise with local authorities and stakeholders to facilitate swift approvals, addressing any concerns or feedback in alignment with Allison Homes’ goals.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
* Build strong, collaborative relationships with local planning authorities, consultants, and community stakeholders.
* Lead public consultations and community engagement efforts to promote Allison Homes’ commitment to community building.
Sustainability and Biodiversity Focus:
* Incorporate Allison Homes’ sustainability and biodiversity values into planning proposals, ensuring developments enhance the natural environment.
* Partner with environmental consultants to implement biodiversity strategies, green infrastructure, and eco-friendly designs in planning submissions.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
* Prepare to lead and mentor future team members by promoting a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and commitment to excellence.
* Foster a collaborative and transparent working environment where ideas are shared, and challenges are solved together.
Project Tracking and Reporting:
* Monitor and report on planning milestones, project timelines, budgets, and key performance indicators.
* Proactively identify issues or delays in the planning process and work with internal teams to address them.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in Town Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or related field.
* Membership with a professional body (e.g., RTPI) is highly desirable.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, preferably in residential development within the UK housebuilding sector.
* Proven track record of successfully managing complex planning applications and securing consents.
Skills and Competencies
* Strong understanding of UK planning law, policies, and regulations as they relate to residential development.
* Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability and biodiversity principles and how they apply to residential developments.
* Excellent project management and organisational skills, with an ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate complex issues clearly and diplomatically.
* Customer-focused, with a genuine passion for creating community-driven and customer-centred projects.
* A team player who values integrity, trust, and collaborative work.
* Solution-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
* Results-oriented, with a focus on achieving planning consents within agreed timelines.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring high-quality submissions.
* Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
* Highly motivated, with a proactive approach to both leadership and individual tasks.

* A full driving licence and have use of own vehicle for business travel when required.
