Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Maghera
Type: Farm/Mixed
Location: Maghera, Northern Ireland
Practice Type: Part of a group
Facilities: A 3-branch practice located in the middle of the Sperrin Mountains, with only a 40-minute drive to the North Coast and Glens, as well as Belfast or Derry city life. Two branches have a farm animal crush and pen, and the main branch is equipped for both farm and small animal practice including ultrasound, laparoscope, IDEXX lab station, microscope, x-ray, endoscope, ECG, and kennelling/stabling facilities.
Team: A team of 8 Veterinary Surgeons, including 3 with 20 years of experience and 1 with over 10 years of farm vet experience. A new 2022 graduate will join the Graduate Academy, supported by a dedicated team of 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 2 Student Veterinary Nurses.
Role: This position is suitable for a Veterinary Surgeon interested in dairy-beef-sheep practice, with an option for small animal and equine work.
Applicant Requirement: The ideal candidate will be a Farm Veterinary Surgeon with experience in calving, C-sections, and uterine twists, and must be willing to undertake some equine work. Newly graduated Veterinary Surgeons are also encouraged to apply.
Hours: The standard full-time vet rota consists of a 45-hour week, working 1 weekend in 4 with a long weekend off in lieu. There is an OOH requirement to work 1 night per week on call during winter and 1 night every fortnight in summer. Both full-time and part-time applications are welcome.
Salary: Up to £63,000 depending on experience, plus a relocation allowance of up to £5000.
