About the Job Interview date: W/C 11 December 2024 An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced health and safety professional to join the Governance, Compliance and Risk Department at the University of Northampton. The Health and Safety Advisor will join the Health and Safety Department and work with the Health and Safety team in developing and implementing the University's Health and Safety Strategy and Annual Plans of Work. You will play a key role in delivering the University’s health and safety management system, including presenting training, undertaking risk assessments and preparing inspection and audit reports. You must be able to apply your skills, knowledge and experience to a broad range of health and safety and fire safety challenges consistent with a higher education environment. The post will require you have excellent communication, relationship building and presentation skills to positively engage with our academic and professional services staff and our student population. We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. About you You will have experience of working in a health and safety advisory role in a varied and complex multi-disciplinary organisational environment with the following skills knowledge and experience: current and up to date knowledge with health and safety and fire safety Acts, regulations and guidance. have an in-depth understanding of facilities related health and safety issues including fire safety and building maintenance risks, project safety and the management of contractors. have experience of report writing and policy preparation and be an effective presenter and contributor in committee environments. capable of developing and delivering training across a broad range of health and safety and fire safety topics. expertise and experience in the design, implementation and delivery of safety management systems and process solutions. capable of undertaking accident and incident investigations and preparing investigation reports for senior management attention. experienced in leading safety inspections and on designing and delivering audits including thematic and compliance audits across a broad range of health, safety and fire safety topics. Qualifications Essential: NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) to at least Technical Standard or equivalent Working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Desirable: Working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Qualifications in teaching adults e.g. ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ (PTLLS) Department The Health and Safety Department is a small team within the university’s Governance, Risk and Compliance department. It sets the health and safety direction for the institution, supports line managers in meeting their statutory obligations in delivering a safe environment that enhances the staff and student experience and creates an environment that builds internal and external communities.
