Due to further growth at our Wellingborough facility, we are looking to recruit an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a track record in the production of machined components from design through to manufacture.
The Company
Autocraft Machining Solutions is part of the Autocraft Solutions Group. Our 7,000sqm facility in Wellingborough is home to the group’s medium to high volume machining capability. AMS specialises in cylinder head & block machining, bed plates, ladder frames, EV motor & transmission casings, and structural BIW components.
Purpose of Job
The purpose of the role is to ensure that customer satisfaction is maintained through product conformance to agreed engineering standards and processes. The responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer is to engineer and administer the process and equipment required for manufacturing activities. Engineers will work with a cross-functional team responsible for the total life cycle of manufacturing projects.
You will drive new product introduction across all aspects of manufacturing engineering in support new proposals, implementation of new lines to include machining and sub assembly processes such as pressure test, part marking, washing etc. You will also be responsible to identify new equipment and improvements to existing processes in support of achieving team and company targets for SQCDPE
Duties
1. Define the process of manufacture for new manufacturing lines.
2. Identify latest and new technologies to take the business forward for the next 10 years.
3. Create plans from concept to installation including business justification for approval.
4. Support studies and proposals to assist the business in winning new work.
5. Installation of new equipment and improvements to the existing facility to include vendor management, installation and prove out to expected requirements (TACT, Quality, Availability etc.).
6. Prove out fixtures, tooling & programs on CNC machines.
7. Installation and ongoing process management of sub assembly systems (ptest, washes etc.)
8. To evaluate existing manufacturing systems with a view to optimisation, cost reduction and general continuous improvement using lean principles. Then where appropriate within a cross-functional team, implement the relevant changes.
9. To specify, procure and sign off standard and bespoke tooling, equipment, and machinery, to ensure that robust capable processes are established.
10. To produce and understand CNC part programs, using a variety of programming languages, preferably having CAM experience.
11. To provide process restructuring planning and support.
12. To generate and evaluate technical drawings using CAD including component drawings, factory, and equipment layouts.
13. To create, maintain and develop Process Documentation, Process Sheets, FMEA, Process Flow and APQP.
14. Carry out internal process audits to ensure that process instructions are being followed and are correct. Take and drive any remedial actions as necessary.
15. To develop repair and rework schemes for products including containment actions and concessions.
16. To lead, co-ordinated or participate in problem solving activities using approved tools and techniques (PPS, DMAIC etc.)
17. To work in a IATF16949 environment, upholding the ethics of the company’s quality standards.
18. To travel both in the UK & abroad for supplier/customer visits to support the requirements of the programmes/projects.
19. To have working knowledge of the legislative requirements of Health & Safety, Environmental and Risk Assessment.
20. To perform any other duties reasonably required to achieve departmental and/or Company objectives as deemed appropriate by the Manager / Director responsible.
Requirements
Qualifications
21. A HND or Degree in Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent is preferred
22. Recognised Engineering apprenticeship with minimum 5 years’ experience post apprenticeship in production environment
Experience
23. Proven experience gained within low to medium volume machining processes, preferably gained within an automotive environment
24. Previous experience of project co-ordination including budget control and man management skills
25. Previous experience of constructing CNC programmes from 2D drawings and 3D models and ability to prove out on CNC machines
26. Proven experience of CNC cutting tool
27. Proven experience of CNC machine manual programming
28. Working knowledge of sub assembly process, p/test, part marking, washes etc
Desirable
29. Previous Experience of CNC programming using CAD CAM package
30. SixSigma training to at least Green Belt
Required Skills
31. Solid Works, Autocad / Powermill experience
32. IT literacy, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
33. Interpretation of geometric tolerancing and 2D drawings
34. Good communication skills. Able to communicate and present to all levels within the business
35. Problem Solving using recognised tools and techniques, PPS, DMAIC
36. Understanding and experience of APQP, FMEA’s, PPAP, SPC
