Job summary The Children's Occupational Therapy Team at The QEH NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a band 4 Therapy Assistant to work in their small, but well established and supportive team. Applicants should preferably have experience of working with children and young people. You will be working as part of an integrated team of experienced OT's, PT's, TA's and other members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. This a part- time, fixed term opportunity. You will have the opportunity to work with children in a variety of settings, including nurseries, schools and in our on-site Children's Centre. It would be an advantage to have experience in neuro developmental therapy techniques and working with children, however full training will be given. It would however be essential that the successful candidate be a car driver. The post also involves supporting the team with administrative, equipment ordering and maintenance tasks, therefore experience and demonstration of good teamwork, communication, and computer skills are an advantage.And at times you will be required to work alone, managing, and prioritising your own diary. This is a physically active and demanding role requiring stamina as well as a practical element when working with special equipment. To be competent in the application of therapeutic skills including: Assisting children with functional activities of daily living - dressing, toileting, transfers and mobility. Teaching and supervising exercise programmes for individuals or groups of children. Assessing and reviewing basic specialist seating. Supporting occupational therapists with equipment ordering process and arrangement of equipment assessments. Positioning children in supportive equipment. Applying prescribed footwear and orthoses, monitoring their use and reporting any problems. Assisting qualified staff in the treatment of heavily dependent patients, using moving and handling equipment as necessary. Supporting hydrotherapy treatments and assisting at pool side as required. To be involved in the training and development of occupational therapy and physiotherapy assistants within the paediatric rehabilitation service as required. General housekeeping duties and maintenance of work areas. This also involves cleaning and on-going maintenance of equipment. To have a sound knowledge and understanding of the safety and use of all equipment used within this speciality, e.g., hoists and standing frames. To be aware of and report on the needs of children and young people with disabilities and to promote and encourage independence and improvement of function.
