Managerial Accountable for the delivery and development of a new and evolving specialist Nurse led service with ADHD. Evaluate service delivery and identify areas for improvement in line with local and government initiatives and policies. Represent Trust on strategic and operational groups e.g. Carers/ family and subgroups, transitions meeting, children with complex needs group. Ensure continuity of care for children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders/ADHD amongst services involved acting as a key worker where appropriate within multidisciplinary team working. Analyse and assess information concerning children and young people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders/ADHD providing specialist expert clinical knowledge to multi-disciplinary groups. To identify gaps in service to inform service commissioning and audit service deliver and development. To develop educational/training role across multi-disciplinary settings and to client groups. Mentor and assess students including post basic students. Supervisory responsibilities for other team members. Leadership Lead development of the service utilising specialist knowledge and through clear objectives for service development that consider national, local priorities and service user input. Share expertise within Trust and wider voluntary and statutory groups. Develop networks with other service providers, looking for innovative and joined up ways of working. Possess excellent organisational and time management skills to meet the demands of providing a service to two distinct client groups. To facilitate the sharing and development of evidence-based practice. To act as a resource for Trust and other staff offering specialist and experiential knowledge and support. Maintain an awareness of professional development including clinical governance framework. Empower families and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders/ADHD and parenting or behaviour/self-management skills. Contribute to the complex health and social needs assessments of children with a disability and/or emotional or behavioural disorder and offer advice and support to client or other professionals regarding ADHD in this context. Attend and where necessary contribute to the assessment of complex health and social needs of looked after children at review meetings. Promote health and awareness of Neurodevelopmental Disorders/ADHD through formal and informal education with individuals and groups in a variety of settings. Act up as a Lead Nurse as required. Clinical Autonomous practitioner responsible for planning and organising own caseload. Provide and support a nurse led service that will triage, assess, diagnose and treat children and young people with neurodevelopment disorders specific to ADHD. Work innovatively to address client need. To identify and assess situations and conditions that put a child at risk of abuse/neglect, following local child protection procedures. Attend child protection, core group and family support meetings, participating in the decision-making process. Working in partnership with other agencies monitor and support vulnerable young people. Support children, young people and their families at home, in clinic and other settings and in conjunction with other professionals i.e. CAMHS, providing a link and liaison role that supports families to access appropriate services for their needs. To provide individual support to assist in the child or young persons development of knowledge in regard to their specific needs and diagnosis and also around ADHD parenting or behaviour/self-management skills. Contribute to the complex health and social needs assessments of children with a disability and/or emotional or behavioural disorder and offer advice and support to client or other professionals regarding ADHD in this context. Provide specialist advice around key areas within the aspects of neurodevelopment disorders, specific to ADHD potentially including sleeping, feeding, and behaviour management. Promote and increase awareness of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, specific to ADHD through formal and informal education with individuals and groups in a variety of settings. Provide a Safe and effective Independent Non-Medical Nurse Led Prescribing Service Assessing and Diagnosing ADHD, reviewing any medical conditions that could specifically impact on assessment / diagnosis or treatment specific to ADHD. Ensuring the child is fit and well (including doing a cardio screening as per NICE guidelines). Providing a safe effective service that enables the NMP to initiate medication, titrating and/or changing medication for the children and young people in the service. Adhere to the Medicines Management Code, Alder Heys NMP policy, NICE Guidelines and NMC Standards for the safe keeping and administration of medication. Ensure NMP is prescribing within their scope of practice. Non-clinical Maintain accurate client records in accordance with Alder hey and NMC guidelines. Write reports as necessary i.e. child protection, LAC review, EHCP. Prioritise caseload and manage diary commitments to meet constantly changing needs of the service. Use of administrative systems either paper or IT. Training and Education To assist in training of students to show application of theory to practice. To look at ways of raising awareness of needs of client group to relevant agencies working collaboratively with other agencies in this delivery. A resource for other professionals for Neurodevelopmental Disorders, specially ADHD. Undertake professional training as required and update skills, including early interventions and therapies for neurodevelopmental disorders, specific to ADHD but including ASD. To acquire and disseminate specialist knowledge over a range of work procedures e.g. in-house training, arranging conferences To develop resources to effectively support staff/nursing students/medical students and medics. To ensure as a Specialist practitioner you take responsibility for your own personal development/mandatory training in accordance with the trust and NMC/governing body guidelines. Clinical Governance/Research and Audit Where requested or required undertake audit e.g. collating information about client group, numbers seen and service activity. Monitor and evaluate the service in line with government and local policy and service user requirements. Devise appropriate tools for above. Participate in research projects and write for publication. Communication Liaison/co-ordinator between families and other agencies. Effective communication skills/counselling skills when interacting with children with special needs, mental health issues, challenging behaviour and learning disabilities of different ages. Ability to offer effective support in highly emotional and sensitive situations while imparting complex and emotive information. Multi agency collaborative working, including joint working and information sharing with other disciplines and agencies.
