Validation Engineer
Location: Peterborough
Contract Type: Inside IR35
Duration: 12 Month Contract
We are currently seeking a mechanical systems validation engineer for a 12 month contract position inside IR35 to be based in Peterborough on a hybrid basis.
Responsibilities:
1. Collate system & component validation plans (DVP - Design Verification Plan) based on risk identified within DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis).
2. Deliver assigned projects end to end:
1. Specify test requirements and define engine build & instrumentation requirements through collaboration with relevant engineering teams.
2. Testing will vary, but examples include:
1. Engine dyno testing: engine endurance, functional testing, cold ambient, gradeability, noise & vibration.
2. Machine testing: overseeing validation test work on internal machines.
3. Work closely with test engineers responsible for executing the test; drive decision making from engine data reviews and end of test inspections.
4. Analyse data as appropriate based on the test work being delivered.
5. Ensure that activities are planned and delivered within agreed timelines.
6. Upon test completion, document conclusions and recommendations, complete reports and update DFMEA with learning/results from test work.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Engineering / STEM degree qualified.
2. Demonstrated experience of working as part of a cross-functional team to define test requirements.
3. Demonstrated experience of engine or machine development (or similar).
4. Ability to troubleshoot build and test issues, and work with component owners and engine test engineers to complete validation test sign-off.
5. Ability to analyse engine data and use it to drive business decisions with clear, concise conclusions.
6. A structured approach to problem solving.
7. Good communication skills (both written & verbal).
Desired Skills and Experience:
1. Experience of industrial diesel engine applications, construction machinery or generating sets.
2. Experience of Proactive Reliability, and demonstration of Product Quality.
3. Experience of DFMEA facilitation, creation and validation planning.
4. Proven project management experience related to Diesel Engine development.
5. 6 Sigma Methodology and Continuous Process Improvement.
