Parkland Primary School is situated approximately 3 miles west of Swansea's city centre. It serves a large area of Swansea West, comprising of Sketty Park, Derwen Fawr and parts of Sketty. The school is situated within beautiful grounds which are comprised of three yards, two fields and a woodland area. The school serves a diverse population which includes a specialist teaching facility for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties from year 3 to year 6.
Central to the school's philosophy is that children learn best when feeling safe, happy and secure. Emphasis is placed on children learning through first hand experiences and by being immersed in their learning. Learner voice and children's rights are paramount at Parkland and we encourage pupils to develop a sense of responsibility and to show consideration for others through restorative practices. We celebrate successes to develop self-confidence, and foster self-efficacy to develop children's abilities to understand themselves, impacting upon self-reflection and improvement. Our school nurtures pupils' metacognitive skills to enable pupils to set goals, reflect on their learning, and adapt strategies. This facilitates both academic success and personal growth.
The governing body wish to appoint an excellent, committed and inspirational practitioner to join our happy, hardworking team. The class teacher will be responsible for pupils, aged between 7 and 11, found within the school's Specialist Teaching Facility (Bont Fawr) and will work closely with pupils, aged between 3 and 7, who access the school's nurture provision (Bont Fach), supporting the organisation and running of this setting.
Candidates are asked to outline their own philosophy of primary education, their experience, their expertise and specific skills (including talents such as music, art, sports, dance etc. and to outline the level achieved), abilities and the qualities they would bring to the school. Experience of working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs and the ALN Code is desirable.
Parkland is a successful primary school, with high standards and a staff that show huge commitment to what is best for the children and to both class and whole school initiatives. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to raising standards and deliver the very best experiences for all pupils. This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of a vibrant, caring and hardworking primary school.
