What is the Role?
SSEN Transmission are currently seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced Consents and Environment Manager to support the development and delivery of major, large-scale terrestrial Transmission infrastructure. You will work on iconic National infrastructure projects directly facilitating Scotland's ambitions to meet NetZero through the transmission of renewable energy.
You will join an award-winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives. Reporting to a Senior Consents and Environment Manager, there will be a high level of autonomy for your projects with the benefit of experienced support and guidance provided through the wider Team.
Key responsibilities for the roles will include:
1. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver Nationally significant electricity infrastructure projects from feasibility to achieving development consents (Town & Country Planning Act, Electricity Act and other environmental consents), and supporting our delivery teams through construction.
2. Negotiating challenging consent conditions with statutory authorities and submitting robust supporting information.
3. Lead on and coordinate project optioneering and environmental studies to ensure all environmental and consenting risks are understood and incorporated into the development and refinement of project designs. Undertake environmental compliance monitoring and auditing.
4. Oversee and manage external consultants to deliver proportionate and robust Environmental Impact Assessments to support consent applications.
5. Develop, control and build mutually beneficial external stakeholder relationships (consenting bodies, statutory authorities, key consultees and government departments).
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
1. A working knowledge of the Scottish planning process, relevant consenting regimes and Environmental Impact Assessment legislation, and an understanding and experience of working in the Scottish rural environment.
2. Demonstrable Project Management skills and experience of how to manage the delivery of consenting and environmental compliance for major projects (e.g., project definition and set up, procurement and management of consultants, cost management, project risk, quality assurance and programme management).
3. You will have an Environmental or Planning related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant industry (e.g., infrastructure, environmental / planning/ statutory body/ consultancy dealing with major consenting projects). Membership of an appropriate planning or environmental professional body is also desirable.
4. Knowledge and experience of infrastructure construction processes including Ground Investigation, earthworks, drainage and access works.
5. A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload.
