European Statutory Accounting Manager
£80,000 - £90,000 + Bonus + Benefits
Central London (plus 1 or 2 days per week at another site depending on candidate location) - Hybrid working 3 days in office
12 month fixed term contract
The Company: They are a long-established and successful global manufacturing group with sites across Europe, Far East, and the Americas. This role involves a lot of coordination with a finance third-party supplier, where your project management skills will be essential. The role collates reports from both the tax and accounting teams, and it is your primary responsibility to ensure that the reports are submitted in accordance with strict timetables, involving your process and monitoring skills. You will also review submissions and revert to the team with any recommended adjustments/queries before submission to the third-party audit supplier.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a role responsible for statutory & regulatory reporting
* Experience of preparing statutory accounts
* Knowledge of IFRS and experience of tax compliance
* Experience of preparing year-end tax provisions for group reporting
* Ability to work independently; stakeholder management and relationship management are essential
* Effective communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal
* European experience would be ideal
* Time management and process management skills are essential
* Ability to lead and manage a project effectively
* Strong analytical skills
* Experience in working cross-functionally and in a matrix environment
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
The Role:
* Coordinate and project manage the European Corporate Tax Compliance and Statutory Accounts preparation alongside the Group Tax and European Finance Team
* Prepare/review specific claims such as R&D tax credits and capital allowances claims, working with external advisers/in-house R&D/local engineers to identify and categorize expenditure, maximizing claims where possible
* Ensure corporate tax returns and statutory accounts are filed on time and are accurate
* Work with Group tax to ensure tax reporting into group and local statutory account tax reporting is timely and accurate
* Ensure corporate tax payments are appropriately forecast and made
* Collaborate with the European Finance Team to represent Direct Taxes, improving processes and understanding around corporate tax, withholding taxes, and employment taxes – such as PAYE Settlement Agreements
* Ensure corporate taxes are correctly booked in the underlying SAP systems and feed into group reporting
* Prepare year-end tax reporting under FRS 102 for UK subsidiaries and manage the relationship with external auditors of tax across Europe
* Act as the first point of contact for European Tax Authorities on Direct Tax audits, working alongside the Group Tax team and external advisers on strategy/approach
* Work alongside Group Tax and the European Finance Team to ensure Direct Tax requirements are fully considered in the implementation of the new system
* Identify and implement process improvements in areas of responsibility
* Involvement in finance projects and ad-hoc requests
* Contribute to the development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and internal controls and ensure all related process documentation is reviewed and updated continuously
Project Activity:
* Participate as required in the Finance Transformation programme
* Engage in process and business improvement initiatives related to either directly to Accounting Operations or the wider business
