Reed Accountancy & Finance are seeking a dedicated and experienced Year End Accountant to join our local authority organisation based in Kent for an interim role until April 2025. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our financial year-end processes, particularly focusing on General Fund and Collection Fund accounting.
Year End Accountant Responsibilities:
* Lead the year-end closing process, ensuring all financial statements and reports are compliant with statutory requirements.
* Manage and oversee the accounting of the General Fund and Collection Fund, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions.
* Coordinate with various departments to gather necessary financial data and documentation.
* Prepare and review year-end financial statements and supporting schedules.
* Analyse financial data to identify discrepancies and areas for improvement in financial processes.
* Ensure compliance with local government financial regulations and standards.
* Assist in the preparation of audit schedules, and liaise with auditors to facilitate the completion of the annual audit.
* Provide technical guidance and support to other team members on matters related to General Fund and Collection Fund accounting.
* Develop and implement efficient accounting policies and procedures to improve the year-end process.
Year End Accountant Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in General Fund and Collection Fund accounting within a local authority setting.
* Strong understanding of public sector accounting principles and financial regulations.
* Proficient in financial software and systems relevant to local government accounting.
* Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
