An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Croydon Council’s Strategic Transport team as a Transport and Development Planner.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join the council as a Transport and Development Planner. In this role, you will provide specialist transport advice to support the Council's objectives of delivering sustainable development, much-needed housing, and economic growth within Croydon. You will assess the transport impacts of major developments and support the development of transport strategies and schemes to benefit the residents of Croydon.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Advising on highway and transportation implications of planning applications in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework and adopted regional and local plans and policies.
2. Reviewing and providing advice on Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
3. Securing funding for development related transport schemes through S106 Agreements and via Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and oversee and manage their delivery as appropriate.
4. Representing the Council at committee meetings, public inquiries/appeals and public meetings in support of senior officers.
5. Supporting the development of corporate strategies, policies, plans and guidance and secure the provision of transportation solutions, having regard for the Council’s strategic objectives.
6. Sustaining effective partnerships and working relationships with Members, developers, Transport for London and local community groups as appropriate; ensure investment in transport infrastructure is secured and targeted to deliver development and other corporate objectives.
What We’re Looking For:
1. Demonstrate a strong understanding of London Plan, Mayors Transport Strategy and other relevant polices, planning legislation and legal documents, with significant experience in reviewing transport assessments and statements, as well as an understanding of transport modelling.
2. Exhibit excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to provide technical transport advice and expertise and effectively represent the team and engage with customers and stakeholders, ability to handle potentially confrontational situations, and be proficient in reading and interpreting maps, plans, drawings, and schedules.
3. Demonstrate strong organisational skills, including the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
4. Ability to work in a large complex, political organisation and to understand and operate within national and local frameworks of accountability.
5. Have a solid understanding of Croydon’s political and social landscape.
6. Demonstrate significant experience and competence using IT systems.
7. Display a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity in service delivery.
