Job summary
We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Nield House and provide senior medical cover care to 14 inpatients on Clarion Ward (personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating).
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.
In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist.
You'll also have the opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through our management schemes.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Nield House in Crewe is our 29-bed mental health hospital for women. The service is split into two distinct wards, each offering specialist mental health services:
1. Clarion Ward, a 14 bed complex personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating.
2. Compton Ward, a 15 bed acute service for women. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for women who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
Clarion Ward focuses on the need for treatment to be collaborative with service users taking account of individual need, evidence based, driven by multi-disciplinary understanding, support and interventions. This allows the service user to progress through the service and increase their quality of life and functioning.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility of patient treatment plans, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers etc.)
The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.

Your role responsibilities
3. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
4. Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
5. Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
6. Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
7. Participate in ward rounds & clinical audits
8. Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance
9. Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings
10. Participate in the telephone 1:5 Second on-call rota

We are looking for someone who is...
27. Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
28. Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
29. Experienced & knowledgeable in adult psychiatry & mental health diagnosis
30. Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
31. A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
32. Committed to continued professional development
33. Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
34. A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
