Job summary – What to expect:
The Manufacturing Support Engineer provides an effective reactive and preventative maintenance process support function covering both high-speed manufacturing equipment & facilities plant (out of hours); thereby maximising equipment availability, performance and product quality whilst ensuring cost and safety outcomes are achieved. The role will support all manufacturing systems, used in the delivery and production of lenses, run at optimum performance levels, whilst assisting with manufacturing equipment installations and qualification.
About you:
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
1. To follow all Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality practices
2. Provide process failure and breakdown support by diagnosing root cause and repair/recovering equipment performance.
3. Work hand in hand with production and other support staff, to achieve consistent line performance in line with Business Unit targets.
4. Utilising available analytical tools generate and assess key performance indicators and complete trend analysis.
5. Monitor and log equipment defect lists for equipment and create plan to fix.
6. Identify preventative measures and improvements to reduce process failures and breakdowns.
7. Carry out effective preventative maintenance.
8. Identify and implement process improvements to maximise equipment availability and performance.
9. Execute routine safety checks and timely calibration of machines and equipment, following defined schedules.
10. Assist in the control and availability management of spares.
11. Provide training to other members of Manufacturing Support Teams as and when required.
12. Establish and maintain procedures, common ways of working and best practices.
13. Creation of new and review/update existing procedures.
14. Participation within cross-functional continuous improvement and new equipment project teams.
15. Support the development of production team with TPM activities.
Travel Requirements:
There will be a requirement to travel between the Hamble and Chandlers Ford sites. Travel to UK and Non-UK based Vendors. The Company will reimburse employees for all reasonable and necessary expenses while traveling on authorised company business that comply with the Travel and Expense Reimbursement Policy, other Company policies and applicable laws.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Quality Orientated; understanding/recognition and compliance to Safe Working Practice and regulatory requirements.
2. Ability to problem solve.
3. Possess strong data evaluation/trending and general analytical skills.
4. Solid understanding of OEE concepts.
5. Proven flexibility and a strong team player.
6. Good prioritisation and communication skills.
7. Ability to operate workshop machine tools.
8. Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical/electronic control systems.
9. Ability to interpret and use both Mechanical and Electrical drawings.
10. Working knowledge of PLC systems and associated equipment.
11. Familiarity with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Experience and Education:
Minimum of 2 years post-apprenticeship process support experience, working within a high-volume manufacturing environment. Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of PLC controlled manufacturing platforms. Proven experience in all aspects of engineering principles and techniques. Involvement in Continuous Improvement projects/activities. Time served Apprenticeship in Mechanical; Electrical/Electronic engineering is an essential requirement for the role. ONC/HNC or similar in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering preferable.
