The Physical Education department at OAJW consists of a team of highly committed and motivated individuals, consistently delivering high outcomes for students in all key stages. At key stage 4, we offer AQA GCSE PE, OCR Cambridge National Sport Science and BTEC Sport, with an excellent uptake of students. Physical education is at the heart of the Academy, and we endeavour to promote life-long physical activity. Students at OAJW improve their health and wellbeing through a holistic approach in PE, that allows them to flourish and become valuable members of society. Students make excellent progress and become physically literate and can articulate the key knowledge required for physical education, whatever their starting point. The department provides a high-quality, varied curriculum, with inclusion at the heart of it. We will create opportunities for students to develop personally through a wide range of experiences, this is highlighted through an outstanding programme of extra-curricular activities. A broad range of activities, individual and team sports are offered to students, including fitness sessions in the onsite gym, as well as a bespoke sports leadership programme for students.
The department has excellent community links with Bristol City Football Club, Bristol Bears, Angels Dance Academy and Broad Plain Rugby Club, which further enhances our offer. OAJW boasts outstanding facilities, which include numerous hard-court areas for netball, tennis and basketball, expansive playing fields, a Sports Hall, two dance studios, a full-size, floodlit 3G artificial pitch and a 60m 8 lane tartan running strip into a full sized long jump pit.
