As our business looks to deliver its ambitious strategy of growth, we are looking for a Lead Research Scientist in the Biopolymers Team, based at our Ditton site in Widnes, Cheshire. The purpose of this role is to develop innovative, sustainable products for applications in Consumer Care and Life Sciences. Specifically, you will devise and perform experiments for the synthesis of carbohydrate- and protein-based products and will have the opportunity to lead subsequent process scale-up.

* Strong foundation in chemical synthesis with expertise in natural product chemistry
* Experience with process scale-up and design with a view towards manufacturing scales
* Preparative-scale laboratory experience developing enzyme-based processes
* Flexible and focused team player with growth mindset
* Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements
* An effective communicator, capable of building working relationships within an interdisciplinary team and with external partners
* Able to develop innovative and creative solutions to problems using state-of-the-art know-how
* Strong analytical chemistry skillset
* Experience as a leader managing, supervising or mentoring others
What You’ll Be Doing:
Be part of a team that values diversity, sustainability, and continuous innovation, where your ideas and contributions matter.
* Suggest innovative ideas for new products
* Develop R&D pipelines for new products as structured projects
* Conceive, plan and execute lab-scale experiments to develop new reactions towards carbohydrate and protein-based products
* Develop the overall process (including downstream processing steps) with an outlook towards large-scale manufacture
* Oversee pilot and manufacturing scale production trials for new products
