The Role
Wessex Internet is seeking experienced Civils Operatives to get our fibre to the property. Responsibilities include rod & roping, excavations, repairs, re-reinstatements, installation of ducting, core drilling, and the installation of draw rope on telecoms infrastructure. This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, organisation, and civil engineering skills.
We are looking for applicants that hold a valid SWQR card with units 1-4. Ideally, you will have civils experience working on a utility (Telecom, Gas, Water, or Electricity) network. Other civils and Openreach accreditations would be preferred, but training can be provided.
Responsibilities
* Lead the team in carrying out new installation and repair of network duct for associated customer connections.
* Lead the team in clearing blockages in the highway, footway, and customers' private property, reinstating to industry standard.
* Lead the team with the correct attitude towards health and safety in the environment you are working in.
* Work closely with the Co-Ordinator and the Street Works team to ensure that blockages and extra required works are booked in as quickly as possible.
* Be competent in the use of stone saws, wacker plates, trench compactors, and hold the correct certification to complete the works.
* Order all required materials to complete the job correctly first-time round.
* Install new draw rope and drop cable to the customer’s connection point following installation/repair of duct works.
* Complete appropriate paperwork for your daily work, including risk assessments, fleet checks, and field service appointments digitally.
* To treat internal and external customers with respect and always provide support.
* Ensure compliance with all current processes and procedures.
* Be responsible for the company assets & plant assigned to you for the purpose of performing your duties.
* Hold NPORS or equivalent 360 excavator ticket (below 10 ton).
Requirements
* Experience of risk assessment and hazard identification with a strong focus on health and safety requirements and responsibilities.
* Good knowledge of sign/lighting and guarding (NRWSA).
* Good knowledge of permit applications and limitations.
* Experience in a similar operational or engineering environment within the telecommunications industry.
* Proven skills in street works with industry-recognised qualifications and experience of following health and safety guidelines.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.

Salary: £31,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience (Based on 40 hours per week, plus additional overtime).
