As an instrumental part of the construction delivery team, focusing on the delivery of a major construction project in Scotland, you will be based on-site daily, with one of BakerHicks' key clients in the Life Science industry. The Construction Superintendent oversees all aspects of field operations on a process industry project for the EPCM contractor. This role is responsible for the overall coordination, planning, and execution of construction activities, ensuring compliance with project standards, safety protocols, timelines, and budgets. The position requires someone with substantial experience in managing large-scale industrial construction projects, particularly within the process industries (oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, etc.). This role is site-based, with substantial time spent in the field overseeing construction activities. The ideal candidate will preferably reside in the area (or surrounds), and able to travel to site daily. Responsibilities Provide on-site guidance and direction for construction activities, ensuring alignment with the project’s scope, schedule, and quality requirements Manage and oversee day-to-day operations, including coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams Ensure adherence to safety standards and foster a zero-incident culture across the construction site Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents, ensuring accurate and timely execution of the work Work closely with the Construction Manager to develop and implement the construction schedule, and monitor progress to maintain the project’s critical path Deputise for the Construction Manager during absences Supervise and direct the activities of discipline construction supervisors, ensuring smooth coordination across various work packages Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to the project, providing timely solutions to technical and operational obstacles Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure all work is completed to the required standards and specifications Regularly review resource allocation (manpower, equipment, and materials) to ensure efficient and productive site operations Maintain detailed daily records of site activities, incidents, and progress, providing regular updates to the Construction Manager and project stakeholders Participate in weekly progress meetings, providing insights on site performance, potential problems, and mitigation strategies Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements relevant to the project Requirements Qualifications Bachelors Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent Construction related qualification and construction management experience across the M&P, E&I and Civil Engineering disciplines Experience Extensive experience in construction supervision on EPCM delivery projects Experience working on EPCM contracts and managing multiple contractors and complex work packages Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, industry standards, and safety regulations in the process industry Proven ability to coordinate and motivate large construction teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Key Strengths Supervision and team management Proactive decision-making and problem-solving Strong understanding of safety, quality, and project management principles Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing conditions Additional Key Information For This Hire The role is primarily site-based, requiring the candidate to work in various outdoor environments and in close proximity to heavy machinery.
