We have an opportunity for a strategic project construction Programme Manager to lead and manage a diverse programme of delegated strategic capital projects, supporting the Trust to deliver excellent clinical services and patient care.
The Capital Development and Property team is integral to the successful delivery of UHSussex’s £70m annual capital investment plan, delivering projects of mixed complexity across our 5 hospital sites spread along Sussex’s coastline and in Haywards Heath.
Based at Worthing Hospital with the ability and willingness to travel to all sites across the Trust for live construction projects will be required. Current strategic projects include 3Ts stage 2/3 redevelopment and Expansion and reconfiguration of the Emergency Department at RSCH, Brighton, Stroke reconfiguration at SRH, Chichester and Replacement of RACC roofing across 2 sites.
Main duties of the job
To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate expertise in programme management of complex projects, strategy, finance, stakeholder management, programming and problem solving finesse with equivalent experience in a technical construction related discipline and have a clear commitment to continuing professional development.
You will have proven skills in effective people management and communication. Representing the Trust within strategic construction project teams, you will require an understanding of the importance of stakeholder relationships to successful project delivery.
You will report to the Director of Capital Development and Property and be supported personally and professionally by a commitment to care and compassion that applies as much to our staff as it does to our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
oTo support the Director of Capital Development and Property in the long term strategic planning and development of the estate, ensuring the provision of safe, fit-for-purpose environments for patients, staff and visitors, which reflect changes in clinical practice, and which are consistent with the strategic aims and objectives of the Trust.
oTo manage the delivery of an integrated, responsive and service focused capital development function, incorporating legal, planning and commissioning, project and programme management.
oTo ensure that the condition and quality of the estates remains a priority area for investment, thus reducing Backlog (physical condition and statutory compliance) through a multi-year rolling programme of capital funding and specific strategic investments. The post holder will ensure investment in the estate is cognisant of the current six facet survey.
oTo ensure wherever possible Trust Divisions are encouraged to incorporate new ideas and good practices into projects, and to design buildings which are flexible and fit for the future. These will include how projects deliver additional benefits such as social value, carbon reduction, digitisation and modern methods of construction.
oTo ensure that highly complex and sensitive project information is suitably managed, communicated to and understood by a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Essential criteria
1. Educated to masters degree level in relevant discipline or equivalent
2. Member of chartered body, professional registration
3. Experience - Highly developed specialist knowledge
4. Experience of delivering capital projects within the NHS
5. Skills - Wide ranging knowledge of capital programme
6. People management and development -

8. Qualifications - Additional PM qualification i.e. APM or PRINCE2
9. Skills - evidence of exceptionally clear thinking, confident decision maker.
