Job overview
We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to lead the evolving Clinical Nurse Specialist Acute Oncology team. The team works in collaboration with the acute inpatient, Emergency Medicine, Specialised Palliative Care, and site-specific Clinical Nurse Specialist teams across STH to ensure that patients presenting acutely unwell with a known or unknown cancer diagnosis or a cancer treatment-related problem are managed safely.
The Acute Oncology CNS team offers specialist advice and support to the wider multi-disciplinary teams in managing the complications of treatment or disease for our patients during periods of acute, often complex presentation.

We are looking for an extremely motivated, confident, flexible, and passionate individual with excellent communication and leadership skills, who has experience/knowledge in oncology or working with oncology patients, to join the Acute Oncology team.
Main duties of the job
1. To lead the team to provide safe expert care for patients presenting acutely unwell with a known or unknown cancer diagnosis or a cancer treatment-related problem.
2. To work as an autonomous practitioner to accept and prioritise referrals to the service, organising workload, supporting other team members while adhering to established clinical protocols and guidelines to assess and diagnose specific AO problems.
3. To provide ongoing support to medical and other health care professionals involved in the patient’s management, including participating in the AO MDT’s presenting patient cases and following up outcomes.
4. To act as a resource in assessing and recognizing patients’ individual physical and psychological needs and offer holistic support to patients, families, carers, and colleagues as required.
5. To use relevant specialist training, expertise & knowledge in cancer care and nursing to provide patients with the necessary information and advice to help them make informed choices.
6. Providing support to patients and their families and referring to other agencies / Health Care Professionals / MDT’s as appropriate to optimise the delivery of holistic care.
7. To attend Malignancy of Unknown Origin/ Cancer of Unknown Primary MDT and clinic to provide support and information for patients; undertaking formal holistic needs assessments at key stages of the patient’s pathway.

Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse and current NMC registration
* Recognised oncology qualification
* Advanced communication certificate
* Completion of the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
* Evidence of post-registration academic development
* Evidence of master’s level learning
* Leadership skills course and extensive management experience with HR issues
* APACS
* Non-medical Prescribing
* Level 2 Psychology training
Experience
* Substantial post-registered experience in oncology
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Evidence of a flexible approach to service development.
* Ability to manage change effectively.
