CARERS BUCKS VOLUNTEER- STOKE MANDEVILLE,
AMERSHAM, OR WYCOMBE HOSPITAL
About this role:
At Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust we have a simple mission – Personal and Compassionate Care Every Time. Volunteers help to enhance the patient experience and complement the work of paid members of staff.
Carers Bucks is an independent charity supporting unpaid carers in Buckinghamshire. We provide up to date advice and information, emotional support, learning and development and carer support groups. We work with a range of organisations and agencies to provide the best possible service to carers. We are a business partner of Buckinghamshire County Council.
Carers Bucks offer immediate face to face support, advice and information for carers who are visiting the hospital or who are admitted themselves. A carer can be a relative or friend who looks after someone on a regular basis without payment. We include past carers, carers with a relative or friend living in a care home, parent carers, young carers and working carers.
All volunteers will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check.
Commitment : At least one session per week for a minimum of 6 months. 1 day a week 3hrs or more morning or early afternoon
Must be 18 or over
What are the key tasks?
* Support of unpaid carers: To meet with family and friends on wards as they visit patients and listen to their needs in a sensitive and supportive way. If they are unpaid carers, to make them aware of the free support and information provided by Carers Bucks. The volunteers would also meet with carers who have been admitted to hospital themselves and offer support as needed.
* Raising the profile of Carers Bucks: The volunteer would have a presence in the wards to raise the profile of Carers Bucks’ services among staff and others, as appropriate.
* Keeping a record of activities: The role will involve some record keeping or note taking so that the volunteer can inform their Carers Bucks supervisor about the needs of those they have met.
* The role will require a sensitive and respectful approach.

Essential requirement/commitment:
* Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age
* All Volunteers will require a DBS check.
* Participation in the training relevant to your role and confidential discussion of any reasonable adjustments required to meet your needs.
