Teaching Assistant/Learning Mentor, Harbour School Dorset
Role Overview
Your role as a Teaching Assistant will involve helping students engage with their learning, supporting their emotional well-being, and helping them feel confident in school.
You’ll be a key part of the classroom team and a calming presence in moments of emotional turbulence. You’ll be the glue that holds everything together, helping our students navigate their school day without it feeling overwhelming.
This role can be full time or part time.
Key Responsibilities
1. Be the superhero sidekick students need in the classroom, helping them access learning in their own unique way, whether it’s helping them stay focused, managing behaviour, or just being there to listen.
2. Assist in delivering personalised support for students with ASC and SEMH; making learning fun and accessible and helping them feel at home in the classroom.
3. Use your organisational skills to manage the day-to-day needs of students and keep things running smoothly.
4. Help create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to be themselves.
5. Collaborate with teachers and other staff members, because teamwork makes the dream work.
What We’re Looking For
1. Excellent communication skills; you can talk, listen, and translate a bit of teenage language.
2. Reliability, great organisational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
3. Experience of working with children, especially those who’ve faced challenges. Experience with kids who have additional needs or disabilities is a plus.
4. The ability to stay calm and collected in high-pressure situations.
5. A genuine passion for working with young people and the patience to handle classroom dynamics.
6. The ability to adapt your style to each student, because no two days or students are the same.
7. Enthusiasm and the right attitude are essential.
Why join us?
1. The chance to make a huge difference in the lives of young people.
2. Comprehensive support, induction and training package.
3. A supportive team who’ll have your back during all moments.
4. Professional development opportunities to help you grow.
