Our trust has over 17,000 staff serving 2 million patients every year. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital, North Middlesex University Hospital and more than 30 services in the community. This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.
We are increasing the number of Advanced Clinical Practitioners within Emergency Medicine, this is an exciting time as we build a strong team of ACPs to lead the way and shape the future. We are keen to hear from all professionals. Ideally, candidates would have completed their academic training, but if candidates are close then please reach out.
At the Royal Free, we strongly believe in the role of ACPs and actively strive to provide an environment that will assist you as an individual with autonomous practice and allow you to continue to develop your clinical and leadership skills. We are looking to expand our team of ACPs across the ED and are looking for practitioners with a nursing, AHP, or Paramedic background. The Consultants in our current team have varied sub-specialty interests and are experienced in mentoring through training and supporting ongoing development.
You will be supported through regular clinical supervision, individual learning plans, ongoing education, and access to a rapidly expanding team of ACPs to provide mentorship and support. There will be the opportunity to do secondments in other specialties. We run a regular teaching programme and there is access to quality improvement training and participation in projects.
The post holders will work in the ED and the SDEC. Applicants with a paediatric background will work in the Paeds ED. We would be interested to develop those who have a specialist skill or interest.
Main duties of the job
* Provide the core ACP role which is to assess, diagnose and treat patients with undifferentiated clinical presentations with appropriate supervision in the Emergency Department.
* Work within the ED doctor rota once deemed competent and completed appropriate competencies and participate in departmental teaching programme.
* Integrate with the multi-professional team within and outside of the Emergency Department and demonstrate effective multi-disciplinary team working.
* Participate in and/or lead clinical research which will guide practice developments.
* Ensure that Clinical Governance standards are fully met with annual involvement in QI/ Audit projects.
* Develop as a clinical leader and act as a positive role model.
* Promote and support trainee, new and experienced ACPs as well as others developing or working in advanced and specialist roles to maximise their potential.
* Contribute to the development of local guidelines and standards.
* Report to the Head of Nursing and Lead Consultant for the ACP programme acting as an expert team member for the effective delivery of the Advanced / Emergency Care Practitioner service.
Working for our organisation
The organisation and the Emergency Department Leadership is keen to grow an Advanced Clinical Practitioner workforce. The ED is extremely busy with the ability to extend your medical knowledge due to being a specialist centre for renal and transplant medicine to name a few. We have grown how we deliver emergency care by expanding our Acute SDEC which is managed and delivered by our ED team.
The Trust is under new leadership and we are in the process of transitioning, with North Middlesex joining the Royal Free London Foundation NHS Trust. New challenges ahead. As we move out of winter and the recent NHS England target to achieve 76% in the 4-hour performance indicator for March 2024, we hope you are up for growing with us and being part of a team willing to champion transformation.
