Pay: Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £12.92 an hour; this increases to £14.05 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too.
We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you’ll have 3 weeks’ notice of your shifts. We are happy to support flexibility for our colleagues.
Customers are at the heart of everything we do.
As the face of Tesco out on the road, we deliver all the way from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. Our Customer Delivery Drivers get the opportunity to meet and talk to different customers in their homes every day. This role is about more than just driving: it's about helping others and delivering great service, with a smile.
It’s hands-on, physical, and full of variety. No two shifts are ever the same, and our customers look for help in different ways. You’ll feel like your own boss while delivering to customers, with a team of Managers and colleagues back at base ready to support you when needed.
You will be responsible for:
1. Ensuring the van and trays are clean and organized.
2. Leaving the back yard clean and tidy.
3. Washing trays as part of the tray wash process.
4. Loading the van and checking it for roadworthiness.
5. Communicating with customers about changes to their order.
6. Taking care of products and deliveries.
7. Explaining substitutions to customers.
8. Delivering during the customer’s time slot.
9. Calling the customer if arriving early.
10. Notifying the store if running late.
You will need:
1. To build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit.
2. To be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues.
3. To act quickly in response to changing customer needs.
4. To be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations.
5. To share ideas with your Manager and colleagues.
6. A valid UK/EU/EEA Driving license (Full or Automatic) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
What’s in it for you:
1. Holiday starting at 20 days plus a personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months (plus Bank holidays).
2. Request flexible working from day one.
3. 10% off and 15% at payday weekends – save up to £2,000 a year with your Colleague Clubcard.
4. Access to free wellbeing services.
5. Life cover of five times your pay and an award-winning pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
6. Benefits to suit you, choose what you use.
7. Uniform provided and policies to support you for all of life’s moments.
8. Access to colleague networks for support.
