Functional area: Engineering
Sitting within the Geophysics and Metocean team, and working closely with the Geotechnical Engineering and site survey package management team, your role will be to work with a data management contractor to manage, QC and organise the offshore and onshore geological, geophysical, geotechnical, metocean and environmental data, for RWE’s portfolio of offshore wind farm projects. The data we acquire covers all stages of the wind farm projects from early site prospecting through construction, onto operations and maintenance, and eventually, end-of-life, decommissioning or repowering surveys.
About the role:
* Working in conjunction with team leads to prioritise and plan the pipeline of datasets to move through the data management system, including the planning of data moves from different storage accounts (e.g. hot, and cold storage)
* Management, QC and organisation of geoscientific data, including checking the data to meet our data format and filetype requirements
* Coordination with data stakeholders within RWE and externally to ensure the efficient transfer, storage, and use of geophysical datasets
* Preparation of geoscientific data for submission to regulators, e.g. The Crown Estate
* Supporting the development of technical tenders and scope, to ensure planned surveys meet the requirements of a range of stakeholders and regulators based on the implementation of lessons learned from the QC of geoscience datasets
* Supporting technical tender assessment and review, to ensure suppliers can meet data delivery requirements
* Supporting the site investigation teams to review data during and on completion of surveys to ensure our surveys deliver high levels of quality and accuracy
* Collaborating with IT and other departments to ensure the proper functioning of data management systems.
Job requirements and experience:
* Background in geoscientific data management and experience reviewing technical reports and large technical datasets, including QC of, and knowledge of metadata standards
* Detail-orientated with the ability to solve technical problems and collaborate with a wide range of different stakeholders
* Knowledge of governance processes for data management and Q-FAIR data management philosophy
* Ability to QC large and varied geophysical datasets, including deliverables for sidescan sonar, magnetometer, gradiometer, sub-bottom profiler, and UHRS data
* Familiarity with specialist software such as ArcGIS, SonarWiz, Oasis Montaj, IHS Kingdom, Petrel, etc. and understanding of cloud-based data storage solutions
* Familiarity with geophysical and hydrographic survey techniques and their respective deliverables and data formats, and if not already known, an interest in learning geotechnical, metocean and environmental data deliverables and formats
* Good understanding of requirements for pUXO, archaeological, environmental and hydrographic surveys for all stages of project development, and good understanding of Industry Technical Codes, Process and Regulations and European regulatory requirements for offshore wind surveys
* You work with multi-discipline groups and communicate at all levels; you are a good communicator and an engaged collaborator
* High regard and good knowledge of current European (or local country equivalent) health, safety and environmental legislation
* MSc or equivalent in Geophysics, or a relevant geoscience discipline
Advantageous, but not essential:
* Interpretation and integration experience of geophysical and geotechnical datasets
* Knowledge of use cases for machine learning for geoscience data applicable to ground modelling and ability to build scripts for geoscience data management, processing and interpretation
* Knowledge of OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe)
* Willingness to travel internationally
* Flexibility to work some time “out of hours” as part of a wider survey team to provide technical support to live survey project
