Job Title: European Patent Attorney at Canon Europe
Canon Europe is seeking an exceptional European Patent Attorney to provide high-quality, timely, and flexible patent services. This role involves drafting, filing, prosecution, opposition, appeals, and freedom-to-operate searches. The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering cost-effective solutions and making a significant impact.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Filing and prosecution of Canon Inc (CINC) originating European, UK, and foreign patent applications, including participation in UK IPO hearings and EPO oral proceedings.
2. Working with technologies such as medical imaging, image sensors, camera lenses, user interfaces, video systems, digital standards, image processing, control systems, and MFP solutions, with increasing involvement in AI applications.
3. Coordinating prosecution strategies with patent engineers in Japan for the UK and Europe, including EPO appeals.
4. Supporting digital standardization efforts, involving technologies like video coding (HEVC/VVC), streaming (MPEG-DASH), wireless communications (5G, Wi-Fi 802.11), and connected vehicles.
5. Collaborating directly with engineers at Canon Research France to draft, file, and prosecute patents related to digital standards, guiding applications across multiple countries.
6. Providing patent support for various Canon group members, including software and hardware solutions such as network video, cloud printing, document management, OCR, and cloud-based video analysis.
7. Engaging in invention harvesting, drafting, prosecution, licensing, enforcement, negotiations, disputes, and general IP advice. Some travel within Europe may be required.
8. Contributing to a culture of continuous technological innovation, IP training, and process development within the group.
9. Participating in internal CPD activities and seminars to foster ongoing professional development.
