Job Purpose:
Responsible for data centre support to external and internal clients, assisting with server, networking, and hardware-related tasks and standard change requests via phone, email, and fax. Supporting DC capacity, layout, Rack Deployment, Cabling, and other facilities activities across multiple site locations in Edinburgh. The candidate will need to have their own vehicle and full UK driver’s license.
Shift pattern:
12-hour shifts. Four on four off 07:00 – 19:00/19:00 – 07:00. One week in four night shift rota. Plus on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Respond to customers within agreed SLA.
2. Deliver intelligent remote hands for external and internal customers.
3. Deploy racks and related equipment to support customer orders.
4. Manage all incoming calls, tickets, emails, and faxes to the data centre services function.
5. Proactively update customers and resolve service issues.
6. Follow escalation processes; tickets to support management and other teams as required.
7. Liaise with third-party suppliers to report and escalate customer problems.
8. Access management to site where no security function is available.
9. Cabling support including crimping, patching, labelling, running, and terminating.
10. Troubleshoot hardware faults and arrange replacements.
11. Install and decommission redundant equipment and cabling.
12. Co-operate and work closely with all members of the DC and wider operational teams to ensure efficient, productive, and high-quality service to customers.
13. Stock control of Pulsant assets and store management.
14. Manage, categorise, and prioritise all relevant tickets; these include problems, queries, and requests regarding Pulsant services.
15. Support Trainee DC Engineers when required.
16. Monitor infrastructure, conduct site walk-around checks, and report/escalate any faults or concerns as required.
Our ideal candidate:
1. Experience providing high levels of customer service in an IT or similar industry.
2. Computer hardware troubleshooting experience.
3. Ability to work well to deadlines and under pressure.
4. Ability to think logically.
5. A good knowledge of how software and operating systems work.
6. Good problem-solving skills.
7. Keen interest in, and passion for IT technology and infrastructure.
8. Commuting distance, no more than 1 hour driving distance from the Edinburgh EH12 and EH28.
