, United Kingdom Job Family Group: Maritime Worker Type: Long Term International Assignment Posting Start Date: November 15, 2024 Business unit: Downstream and Renewables Experience Level: Experienced Professionals Job Description: Purpose: To assist in ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of STASCO-managed vessels and that all operational practices meet Flag State, Company and customer requirements. Background: The Assistant Operations Superintendent is responsible for assisting in the effective implementation of navigation, seamanship and cargo handling policies on board all vessels across different fleets, as well as within a specific fleet group. The incumbent must be fully conversant with the operational systems and procedures on fleet vessels they have sailed on. Fundamental to the success of the position, is the development of close working relationships with others within the fleet group and staff on board allocated vessels, as well as with shore-based staff within and outside fleet management division. Expectations: 1) Comply with the General Manager’s ‘Statement of Expectations’ to all seagoing and shore-based staff. 2) Openly report to line management any QHSSE, technical, or operational non-conformances, follow a thorough and effective investigation of root causes as well as identifying corrective and preventative actions. 3) Determine if company policies, standards and initiatives are being complied with and where gaps are identified, to plan effective measures to close, report to managing office and implement such plans. 4) Use your professional judgment and seek guidance from the line management when in any doubt as to the safety of the crew and vessel, the integrity of Shell’s reputation, the level of customer service provided, or complying with the required standards. Principal Accountabilities: 1) To understudy and assist the Operations Superintendents in the day-to-day running of the fleet and to be an active member of the ship/shore unit team. 2) Assist in ensuring that vessels within the fleet group are run safely, reliably and economically to the highest professional standard, thus ensuring the highest possible level of cargo care in both quality and quantity. 3) Assist in ensuring that all the International and Flag State legal, regulatory and Industry requirements and company policies concerning ship operations, including health and safety of personnel, the safety of navigation and cargo care are adhered to at all times. 4) Assist in ensuring that the Group’s reputation is safeguarded and take responsibility for ensuring the minimisation of exposures to environmental pollution. 5) Actively promote the Company’s QHSSE policies to personnel on board, to others within the Shell Group and to Third Parties involved with STASCO-managed vessels. 6) Assist in providing an effective working link on a day-to-day basis between shore management and ship's staff, based on positive auditing and reporting of relevant activities. 7) Maintain close links with the Technical and Operational Excellence (TOE) Team and be responsible for the effective implementation of projects and new or revised processes related to operational activities within the fleet group, keeping the Fleet Manager informed as to the status of implementation within the fleet group. 8) Be familiar with international, national and classification society rules and regulations which apply, or are proposed for application, to tankers and/or gas carriers. Dimensions: STASCO Ship Management is engaged in the following core activities: Ship Management, Crew Management, Emergency Response, Maritime Security, Technical and Operational Excellence. STASCO managed fleet consists of 25 vessels, of which 21 are managed from our London office, and 4 from the STAPL Perth office (on behalf of the Northwest Shelf project): 6 oil/chem tankers, 6 LNG vessels in London fleet, 8 in “Nakilat” fleet, 4 in NWS fleet and the Suiso Frontier, the world’s first vessels for carriage of liquid hydrogen. Exclusive of refit, total annual budget allocated to management of the fleet is approximately USD 185 million. Skills & Requirements: Class I (Master) Certificate of Competence as Navigation Officer, or equivalent. Sound knowledge of marine operations accumulated over the years from sea-going experience and recognised maritime education. Participation in development and delivery of a specialist project such as, for example, a major ship/FSU conversion or a project associated with a Shell Non-operated venture (NOV) or similar will be advantageous but not essential. Self-motivated with proven leadership and QHSSE management capability. Good awareness and understanding of International, Industry and Company requirements.
