Senior Personal Lines Underwriter
We've got an exciting opportunity for a Senior Personal Lines Underwriter to join our dynamic and fast-paced team here at NFU Mutual. This role plays a key part in supporting our frontline underwriters to deliver the high standards of technical quality, customer service, and compliance we're known for.
Your day-to-day will be varied. You'll be supporting and coaching underwriters, helping to strengthen capability and embed underwriting excellence. You'll also act as a key link between Head Office strategy and regional implementation, making sure changes are well understood and delivered effectively. Working closely with our Agency Network, you'll guide conversations, manage challenges constructively, and maintain strong, productive relationships.
There's a real emphasis on continuous improvement - from auditing and quality checks to analysing data and account performance, you'll be creating insight that drives better decisions and helps shape future ways of working. With NFU Mutual currently going through an exciting period of transformation, including the rollout of new policy administration systems and a greater focus on the digital customer journey, you'll be helping us stay true to our values while evolving for the future.
If you thrive in a role where no two days are the same, where you're helping others grow while influencing the bigger picture, this could be a brilliant fit.
Please note, this role is referred to internally as Regional Senior Technician.
About you
You'll be someone who brings deep technical knowledge of personal lines underwriting, alongside the confidence and communication skills to support others, build strong relationships and influence change. This role calls for a blend of hands-on expertise, sound judgement and the ability to collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders - all while keeping the customer at the heart of what you do.
We're looking for someone with a strong track record in the following areas:
* Extensive personal lines underwriting experience - particularly in motor and/or household, with a solid history of managing the most complex, high-value cases and holding higher levels of authority. You'll have a clear understanding of the market and how to navigate regulation, compliance, and business priorities confidently and effectively. Experience of working within the high-net-worth market would be advantageous too!
* Decision-making and judgement - you're confident in owning messages and outcomes, making informed decisions and clearly communicating your reasoning to a range of audiences.
* Experience working with control environments - whether through quality assurance, technical reviews, audits or other assurance activity, you'll be familiar with maintaining standards, identifying gaps and taking the right action.
* Stakeholder engagement and influencing - you'll be skilled at building trusted relationships and managing challenging conversations, particularly with our Agency Network and other key contacts across the business.
* Coaching and mentoring capability - while not necessarily a people manager, you'll have experience in supporting others' development through quality feedback, guidance and technical support.
* A continuous improvement mindset - ideally with experience of driving positive change, interpreting performance data and turning insight into action that supports both underwriting excellence and customer outcomes.
Benefits and Rewards
When you join our team, you can expect a supportive culture and an attractive range of rewards and benefits including:
* Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience.
* Annual bonus (up to 17.5% of salary)
* Contributory pension scheme, up to 20%, including your 8% contribution
