Interim PT Generalist Solicitor

Pay Rate: Up to £65.00 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hybrid working - Candidates must be able to attend the office on a regular basis, e.g. once per fortnight and in line with work demands.
Key requirements:
Qualified Solicitor or Barrister.
Demonstrable experience of local authority contracts - especially housing and planning and general experience of local government law.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience of advocacy before Courts/Tribunals/Inquiries.
Experience of litigation procedures.
Strong influencing and negotiation skills and able to work effectively with members of the public in a range of situations, sometimes challenging and difficult ones.
The purpose of the role is to provide legal advice and representation in relation to a wide range of local government law and governance (subject to experience and relevant training) including but not limited to advice, interpretation, drafting and representation at court, hearings, tribunals and council committees.
Key Requirements:
Support income generation by providing advice to external clients in respect of the matters above.
Assist the Head of Legal and Commercial Services, Legal Services Team Manager and Legal Team Leaders on any other legal matters arising, as required.
Engage in marketing activities including attending networking events, presenting training courses and writing website articles.
Support the Head of Legal and Support Services and Legal Services Team Manager to ensure legality in the Council’s decision-making process and that the council’s various committees, boards, groups and working parties have the appropriate level of legal advice and support.
Attend or represent the Head of Legal and Support Services or Legal Services Team Manager at meetings (including evening meetings) of the Council, committees, sub-committees and other boards, groups and working parties as requested.
Liaise with external solicitors, counsel, etc who are acting on the Council's behalf in respect of legal issues, including the drafting of instructions.
Such other duties as may be required from time to time that are consistent with the general level of responsibility of the post.
