Job Role: Youth Engagement Development Coach
Hours: 35 hours
Salary: £23,933.00
Job Description
To deliver Leyton Orient Trust’s Youth Engagement programmes including delivery of Premier League Kicks, Advantage and the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme as well as developing effective schemes of work across all areas of youth engagement provision.
Responsibilities
* Delivering a structured and high quality weekly coaching and enrichment programme for all participants involved in the programme.
* Adding to the production of coaching resource bank and planning weekly session plans to a high standard in line with partner and funder requirements.
* Ensuring safety for all participants by undertaking health and safety checks before each activity and adopting the Trust’s safeguarding procedures.
* Working with the Youth Engagement Officer and Lead Development Coach on ensuring all data is collected and inputted onto relevant systems
* Capturing good news stories and case studies of participant development and individual achievement in session
* Attending all training as required
* Attending match days to work on Trust and Club related activities
* Completing all other tasks as requested.
Minimum Essential Requirements and Experience
At least two years’ experience of working with children or young people aged 5 - 18yrs within a youth work, sports and or educational setting
• Ability to work effectively within a team understanding roles and responsibilities within the settings
• Ability to build effective working relationships with young people, teachers, parents/carers and colleagues.
• To be a positive role model to participants promoting a positive ethos
• Ability to lead a structured coaching programme working with young people of a range of abilities
• Knowledge of PE and the National Curriculum and experience of delivering PE lessons according to its guidelines
• Knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and legislation in child welfare/protection.
• Customer Care - Listen and respond to customer need, seek out innovative ways of consulting service users and engaging partners.
• Valuing diversity - Listen, support and monitor the diverse contributions made to service development without prejudice. Challenge behaviours and processes which do not positively advance the diversity agenda whilst being prepared to accept feedback about own behaviour. Understand how Valuing Diversity can improve our ability to deliver better services and reduce disadvantage.
• Experience of setting up community based activities
• Self-motivated and the ability to work on own initiative
• Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills.
• Strong time management skills
• Attitude to always strive to overachieve and continuously develop the programme and organisation. Excellent attention to detail. Commitment to undergo regular CPD
• Competent with the use of IT and IT based systems
Desirable Experience
• Experience of mentoring other staff
• Experience of managing sports based programmes
• Experience of curriculum design linked to the national curriculum
Minimum Qualifications
• FA Level 2 Coaching Football Award/other NGB recognised Level 2 qualification• Safeguarding certificate
• First Aid certificate
• GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths
Desirable Qualification
• FA Youth module 1-3• Level One/Two Youth Work Certificate
• Other Level 1 or above sport / activity based qualifications
• Other Teaching, Mentoring or Health related qualifications
• Level 3 Certificate in Supporting PE and School Sport (or working towards)
