Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health Gateway Team.
The Consultant will be expected to undertake 11 programmed activities per week divided into Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) with a further session to cover emergency or unplanned work. These duties will be negotiated with the Specialty Clinical Director, Adult Mental Health Services, East locality and in the first year the post holder will be expected to spend more time in service development (SPA sessions) working in partnership with managers, commissioners and clinicians to support the establishment of the mental health gateway team. The consultant will be expected to undertake a key leadership role in the development of the service and its operational protocol.
Main duties of the job
The role of the consultant is to support the triage and screening of referrals to the team, offering consultation to referrers and member of the team and supporting the process of signposting, referral and discharge from the team. Screening appointments in the form of face to face assessments (in clinic or at home) of those cases which are complex or likely to benefit from medical expertise, and also to provide consultation/ supervision to the multidisciplinary team as a whole, as envisaged by New Ways of Working. Close liaison with wider primary care services will be a key part of the role, by contacting GPs directly about patients and by attending regular meetings with local practices to improve the interface with mental health services and enhance the ability of medical colleagues working in primary care. Whilst clinical sessions will primarily be delivered within the mental health resource centres based in Crewe, Winsford, Ellesmere Port or within the Acute Hospital Trust at Leighton, there may be an occasional need to undertake appointments at other venues including GP surgerie

Essential
1. MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
2. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
3. MRCPsych
4. Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY

5. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
6. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
7. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
8. Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

9. In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
