An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional who has a passion for specific elements of patient care such as nutrition and hydration and end of life care, to support Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust with embedding fundamental aspects of our patients' care.
This is a new post for the Trust and will therefore provide you with an amazing opportunity to develop the role and the service. Applications for this post are invited from Registered Nurses or Allied Health Professionals who have experience with supporting and educating staff. Having a teaching and assessing qualification is essential.
We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, reliable, a good team player and leader. You will be committed to developing your practice and that of others to ensure that the Barnsley patients receive a high standard of care.
Main duties of the job
1. Work in collaboration with the Lead Nurses / Clinical Educators for the departments.
2. Participate in the development of clinical skills relating to end of life care / nutrition and hydration across the trust in line with the standards and recommendations.
3. Promote evidence-based practice in relation to end of life care.
4. Develop and deliver both structured and unstructured training and educational sessions.
5. Promote an effective learning environment.
6. Support and advise staff in the expansion of clinical skills and knowledge relating to end of life care.
7. Support and facilitate the competency-based education package for new nursing staff, clinical support workers and AHPs.
8. Support nursing staff, CSWs and AHPs through post registration study.
9. Forge and maintain links with the various academic establishments involved in nursing and AHPs care education.
10. Participate in critical evaluation of incidents and be involved in action plans where lessons can be learnt.
11. Develop and deliver teaching packages based upon After Action Reviews (AAR) or Patient Safety Incident Investigation (PSII) outcomes.
12. Deliver/organise training/updates for medical devices.
13. Ensure nursing staff are appropriately trained to supervise and assess learners in practice.
14. Contribute to the delivery of the end of life standards in BHNFT.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with the NMC or Allied Health Professional Registered with the HCPC.

* Professional Nurse Advocate or equivalent or working towards.
Experience
* Substantial and relevant post-registration experience.
* Experience of providing mentorship / practice supervision / assessment to learners in practice.
* Experience of working within teams.
* Extensive experience of working in a health care clinical setting.
* Experience in delivering training packages.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Knowledge of national and local agenda for end of life.
* Knowledge around specific needs of department-specific patient needs.
* Knowledge of current issues affecting education in healthcare, including quality monitoring issues.
