Job Advert Location Description
As a Speech and Language therapist you will provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, interventions, treatments and differential diagnosis for adults with complex needs within therapeutic group sessions.
You will build one-to-one rapport with service users to encourage engagement during sessions. This will see you manage a complex caseload with cultural and linguistic differences and generate appropriate strategies for caseload management to help them develop and improve their communication skills, using evidence based and patient centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions for service users with communication and/or swallowing difficulties .
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in n joint therapeutic interventions and project and will have access to a variety of training and online courses to support your career development and growth.
Line management responsibility, in liaison with other clinical leads.
Duties:
1. Manages and co-ordinates the implementation of individual treatment plans for speech and language therapy services ensuring treatments, activities and interventions are delivered through effective application and communication.
2. Receives and responds promptly to referrals undertaking assessments to identify and prioritise patient needs before planning and delivering the appropriate and relevant interventions on and individual or group basis.
3. Maintains accurate and timely records detailing each patient’s rehabilitation / progress.
4. Ensures the effective and efficient management of more junior staff.
5. Maintains and develops close working relationships with professional and clinical colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring clinical practice is in line with Priory policies and procedures and complies with statutory regulations and quality standards.
6. Contributes to business growth by actively promoting priory therapy services in line with the local units’ business plan.
7. Maintains effective communication links with patients, relatives, carers, and purchasers throughout the patients rehabilitation.
8. Manage the Speech and Language Therapy department in the development and implementation of communication strategies
9. Address therapeutic issues and strategies in respect of any service user within the hospital
10. Evaluate service users communication and/or swallowing difficulties by undertaking formal and informal assessments involving observation and the administration, scoring and interpreting of various tests in order to assess the therapeutic needs of the service users
11. Interpret results of speech and language therapy evaluations and observations and encapsulate these in written reports to be submitted for service users CPA’s
12. To provide specialist education, training and advice to patients, carers, other health care professionals, students, and voluntary organisations
13. Undertake audits and contributing to research in the provision of treatment, to service users with communication and other disorders
14. Provide written and verbal reports as appropriate, enabling all parties involved to fully understand the nature of the persons' communication and swallowing disorders
15. To devise, monitor, supervise and evaluate the implementation of communication and other intervention programmes carried out by other health professionals, volunteers and carers
16. Provide teaching and training to the wider team
17. Develop, prepare and maintain therapeutic materials, and supervise the SLTA to create and maintain a body of appropriate SLT resources
18. Support and facilitate group therapy activities.
19. Identify own training needs and attend appropriate training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills, as approved by the General manager and Head Teacher
20. Attend Ward Rounds, Care Programme Approach’s, Care and Treatment Review’s and any other meetings as required for your caseload
21. Help to ensure that service users are monitored and protected at all times, being alert to signs of distress or abuse

24. Experience in managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
