Commissioning Manager - BESS (18-month FTC)

The Energy Division at ARM is currently recruiting an experienced BESS Commissioning Manager to join a leading Energy storage business. The role is site-based, with the majority of the sites based in Scotland.
Job Overview:
As Commissioning Manager, you will take a lead role in the execution and completion of some of the largest and most technologically advanced BESS systems in Europe. The role will be key in ensuring that the installation, energisation, and testing of our BESS assets are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
Some of your duties will include:
1. Lead and manage the commissioning process for all systems, from the initial planning stages to the sign-off and handover to operations.
2. Support quality control through design and installation phases, ensuring ITPs are in place, followed, and signed off.
3. Work alongside contractors to develop detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures.
4. Oversee the installation, testing, and start-up of electrical systems including batteries, inverters, transformers, switchgear, control systems and protection systems.
5. Work closely with the BESS OEM to coordinate BESS commissioning and testing activities, ensuring full engagement with the ESO control desk.
6. Collaborate with project managers, construction managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless execution of the commissioning process.
What do you need to succeed?
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commissioning electrical infrastructure, ideally up to 400kV, and a good understanding of the requirements for connecting energy infrastructure to the UK transmission network.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in commissioning of energy infrastructure projects; experience of BESS commissioning is advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of HV electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, inverters, protection devices, and SCADA systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Collaborative, with strong communication and organisational skills and the ability to work closely with multiple teams.
- Knowledge of grid code and the requirements of achieving ION and FON.
