As a Literacy Lead at Petherton Park, you’ll have the opportunity to lead, manage and develop tailored literacy curriculum for our pupils incorporating their interests. We take an individual approach to each pupils learning based on their own needs, goals, strengths, and aspirations. As we are a small school, you’ll need to teach other subjects as part of your daily routine. Typically, classes are made up of four pupils, so you’ll have the chance to really get to know the pupils you support and connect with them. You’ll work with neurodiverse children and young people (Aged between 7 - 16) that have additional needs related to communication and interaction, cognition, and learning, sensory and/or physical. Some pupils may have social and emotional challenges, working with them to develop transferable life skills is essential for their transition into adulthood. To be a successful Literacy Lead you’ll need: An ability to teach Literacy/English to Level 2 (GCSE/Functional Skills) with experience of being a subject lead. Patience, compassion, and resilience – The pupils you teach will be neurodiverse, which can impact their learning behaviour and communication needs. Great communication skills – Both verbal and written communication is important in this role as you’ll be speaking to a lot of different people at different times. You’ll need to be able to contribute to a range of resources as well as share information effectively. A driving licence — Our pupils love to learn in a wide range of settings. We need you to drive them to where they need to go. We have the cars; you need the licence. A genuine interest in a career focused on the education of people with a wide range of needs. In return for your time, you’ll get: Holidays – You’ll only work term time (39.2 weeks), and get paid the additional 12.8 weeks whilst you’re off.
