The Deputy Matron will act as a lead nurse for the paediatric ward, using expert decision making and clinical judgement to uphold professional standards and support the team to ensure delivery of a high-quality responsive service to children and their families. The Deputy Matron will support the Modern Matron in ensuring the day-to-day operational management is safe, effective, and aligned with the organisation's values and mission. The post holder will be highly visible in their area and will act as a role model, openly sharing knowledge and expertise to support others to learn, trust and grow.
What you'll do:
1. Manage the ward/department, Team Leader, and clinical nurse specialists in assessing the clinical skills required to deliver a safe and quality service.
2. Lead on identifying deficits and implement programmes to address the issues.
3. Using their knowledge and experience to work with the matron, drive up the standards of clinical care.
4. Provide strong leadership to their teams and ensure senior clinical presence on the ward/unit.
5. Manage quality improvement initiatives to drive up high quality clinical care.
6. Investigate complex incidents and identify and implement corrective action.
7. Act as a change agent and innovator, promoting an effective change culture within nursing teams.
8. Work with the Matron in the financial management of the service being aware of budgets and working within them.
What you'll bring:
1. Registered Nurse (Child) (essential)
2. Teaching/assessing qualification (essential)
3. Evidence of significant clinical experience in medical area and ability to function at level required (essential)
4. Knowledge of NMC Codes and guidelines and their implications for practice
5. Management qualification or working towards obtaining one.
