We are seeking a skilled and experienced Transport Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of transportation operations, including overseeing a fleet of vehicles and plant. The Transport Manager will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with transportation regulations and managing a team of drivers.
Job overview/responsibilities
1. Oversee the daily operations of transportation, including managing a fleet of vehicles, plant and drivers.
2. Coordinate routes and schedules to ensure the most cost-effective solutions are used.
3. Develop and implement strategies to optimise processes and reduce transportation costs.
4. Develop and maintain relationships with external clients.
5. Manage and motivate transport staff.
6. Resolve any transportation-related issues or customer complaints in a timely manner.
7. Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices in logistics and transportation management.
8. Conduct DVLA and other fleet inspections and maintain accurate records.
9. Oversee routine maintenance and repairs for the fleet.
10. Manage fuel cards, purchases, and associated invoices.
11. Ensure all drivers have read, understood and are adhering to the driver’s handbook and the drivers code of conduct.
12. Be the legally responsible person for the depot with own CPC tagged to depot operational license.
13. Ensure that all requirements relating to safety, health, environment, quality, & compliance are being fully implemented.
14. Manage Drivers Tachograph Records and infringements.
15. Conduct Driver Licensing & Dcpc quarterly Checks.
16. Maintain a comprehensive training record for all drivers.
17. Benchmark depot performance and promote best practice and continual improvements.
18. Develop link with manufacturer to ensure vehicle technology and new advancements are optimised.
19. On a daily, weekly and periodic basis, collate, monitor and analyse vehicle and driver costs, vehicle utilisation, Fuel use, KPI and operational data, and make operational adjustments accordingly, to achieve overall performance targets and identify improvement opportunities.
Qualifications/Experience
1. Proven experience in logistics and transportation management, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
2. HGV license preferred but not essential.
3. Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
4. Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to effectively manage a team and foster a positive work environment.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Proficiency in transportation management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
8. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
9. Full UK driving licence with confidence driving large vans.
10. Ability to work independently and take ownership.
11. Exceptional organisational skills with resilience to resolve unplanned situations.
12. Ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation and the public e.g. engineers & the directors.
13. Full understanding of all relevant driving legislation including tachograph policies, driving hours and the road Traffic Act.
14. Full understanding of Health and Safety Legislation around transport operations.
15. Delivering on all KPI targets.
