Job Description:
The Manchester Metropolitan University has made a strategic investment in sports research and education, including the creation of the Sport Policy Unit in the Department of People and Performance, located in the Faculty of Business and Law, and a new Institute of Sport, which opened in September 2022. To support our success in programme popularity, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding education-focused Lecturer to join our team. Duties will include teaching across a range of sport modules in sport management, politics, and policy, as well as marking and supervising student dissertations.
You will have, or will be working towards, a PhD in a relevant topic, or be someone that can bring practical cutting-edge industry insight to the classroom and student learning experience. You will have experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be confident in engaging diverse student cohorts. You should be competent in the use of technology to enhance teaching and possess a collegiate and flexible attitude.
You will be joining an exceptional team that has teaching and research expertise in sports policy and politics more broadly, sports marketing, sponsorship, economics, and law. We are actively engaged in national and international research relationships and projects, including with UK Sport, the Rugby League World Cup, Manchester City FC, La Trobe University, and Tokyo 2020.
The Department of People and Performance
The Sports Policy Unit sits within the Department of People and Performance within the Faculty of Business and Law. The Department prides itself on being a welcoming community, where staff and students are encouraged to develop their careers and make a fulfilling impact. You will be joining the Department at an exciting time as we move into a significant period of growth due to demand from students wanting to study at MMU. To meet the strategic ambitions of the Department, we are seeking to recruit a strong candidate to join our team.
The Department is a dynamic department home to over 80 academic staff. Quality and distinctiveness are our guiding principles, with students and their experience at the forefront of what we do. We place equal emphasis on teaching and research, be it subject or pedagogic research, to transform lives.
Our portfolio covers human resource management, leadership and management, business psychology, work and equality, and sports. The Department is arranged into several academic clusters responsible for developing and delivering their relevant subject areas and courses. Each cluster is represented on the Department Leadership Team.
The Department benefits from strong industry partners, and we work with a number of leading organisations to provide applied learning opportunities for our students and jobs for our graduates. We also have long-standing relationships with Professional Bodies including the CIPD and The Association of Business Psychology. Our graduates perform well in the labour market with 72% in highly skilled employment.
Research and innovation in the Department is driven through the Decent Work and Productivity Research Centre and the Sports Policy Unit.
