Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of consultant community paediatrician to join a team of 4 other consultant community paediatricians and 3 specialty doctors in East IHC.
Our community paediatric department has 2 office bases in Flintshire and Wrexham. We are a busy and dynamic team with a clear emphasis on delivering top quality care to our children and young people. There is a child development centre in each local authority and we work in partnership between Health, Education and Social Services. We have excellent working relationships with our nursing and acute colleagues and with our tertiary centre specialist services at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool as well as with Conwy and Denbighshire local authorities. The department has a long standing reputation for providing excellent training for trainee paediatric staff and medical students.
Candidates with a special interest in safeguarding or adoption/fostering would be able to develop these areas within our team. This post is for substantive consultants in community paediatrics, up to 15 sessions, (ie: 1 full time - 10 sessions and 1 part time Consultant or Applications for reduced sessions will also be considered positively. Clinicians with appropriate registration or impending registration on the Specialist Register may apply.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have responsibility for community paediatric services within Wrexham, cross country work to Flintshire may be needed appropriate with prior agreement with appointee in the job plan. The new post holder will work with a team of community paediatricians to provide this population based paediatric service.
1. The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance programme of the department, providing support to undergraduate and postgraduates as necessary.
2. The Consultant Paediatrician will ensure maintenance of relevant skills through continuing professional development with an annual appraisal.
3. The Consultant Paediatrician will provide clinical supervision for other community paediatricians and clinical and educational supervision for specialist paediatric trainees.
4. The Consultant Paediatrician will participate in the relevant children's management meetings for the service.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Full registration with the GMC.
* RCPCH membership.
* CCT in general paediatrics (CCH) or equivalent / CESR-CP (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
* Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
* Valid BLS Training.
Experience Essential
* Two years general paediatric experience at specialist registrar level, subspecialty experience in community child health with disability and child protection training.
* 2 years General Professional Training in paediatrics.
* 5 years Higher Specialist Training, including 3 years in Community Paediatrics.
Ability Essential
* Good communication skills. Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to lead a community paediatric team.
Clinical Governance Essential
* Thorough knowledge of principles and practice of audit.
Teaching Essential
* Experience, interest and enthusiasm in teaching medical students and junior medical staff.
Research Essential
* Understanding of the research process.
Management Essential
* Commitment to participating in the management process.
Time Management Essential
* Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
